After running the two pumps I think the pondmax is better. certainly pushes more water and justifies the extra 95 bills.

Sorry, in case it isn't clear, the reason for this list is they recalled all of those models because they had potential for electrocuting people.

Thanks for the update on those pumps Journeyman, certainly worth knowing if you were using one of them.

It wil probably pay itself back soon as it only uses 125 watts rather than the 150 watts of the cheaper pump. Gotta spend money to save money, I always say.

I've just got two of the ex BYAP Ebara pumps - took one apart and the cap had blown out. Did anyone ever get down to why the caps in these pumps were going so often? Wondering if a higher rated cap is needed or surge protection?

Anyone bought HK ebay caps as replacements? can get them for $6?, though not sure about quality!!!!

So, when after two years, my crusty but trusty Aquapro AP950 pump died, I replaced it initially with an old Aquapro AP500 pump I had lying around the house, that'd done about a million miles I reckon.

This was only intended as a temporary, emergency fix, just to keep things working until I ordered in an AP750 with 10m cable. The original AP950 was a bit of overkill and are no longer available... and all the AP750's I have in the shop only have 3m cables.

Anyway, the day after I put the old Aquapro AP500 pump in the system I found a brand new, still in the box, Hydor 500 pump in the garage. So I replaced the old AP500 pump with the new, far more expensive, Italian Hydor 500 pump... for my own peace of mind.

Well today, after feeding the fish, I turned the power to the pump back on... rattle, rattle, rattle... and no water... WTF?

Turned the power off, pulled the pump out and opened it up... broken impellor shaft!... WTF?... it's a brand new, expensive, just out of the box, Italian pump... supposedly top of the range... and it's rooted after about 4 or 5 days???

Anyway, I've retrieved the "old" Chinese AP500 pump from the cupboard and re-installed it... until the new AP750 arrives.

This pump from harbor freight looks like a good price that moves the volume needed (if clean water), but the main thing I'm worried about is the document that says "the electrical cord contains lead" to me, if that's a submerged pump, it might be leeching lead into the fish water and thus the system. Any thoughts on this? http://manuals.harborfreight.com/manual ... /68395.pdf And... should I maybe throw away all the grow bed that this has been running on for about year?

I've never heard of anything like that before, strange that they would warn to wash hands after touching the cord because of lead contamination.. Is this ass covering gone crazy perhaps?

Don;t know that I'd bother removing all your media, but perhaps change your pump over... :dontknow:

It's probably to say that they use tin/lead solder on the connections at the ends of the cord... These should never get water touching them so you're fine.

Every other pump will be the same anyway, tin/lead solder is way cheaper and has a better end result than the unleaded stuff.

Yea, anything you but these days probably has lead in it. I would not worry. What I find funny is that a bag of peanuts has a warning that there are peanuts in it. I am pretty sure people with peanut allergies already know that there are peanuts in a bag of peanuts.

Hey there,
haven't read the thread but thought I'd ask anyway.
I've just received notice from the reefshop that 'laguna max flo 6000' is not built any more.

What pump should I get?
2x500 sumps and 1000 litre fish tank (both ground level)
