Sure its doable. But I dont see the point of packing in that many fish... and underfeeding, only to end up with a heap of unhappy stunted fish.

I could grow a trout out in a 2 foot aquarium with the right filtration but its just not humane.

If you want 50, 80 or 100 fish well the right thing to do IMHO is to buy a decent fish tank.

Sorry, but I just dont agree with it.

i never mentioned underfeeding

On another note, your system is very nice, great work on the DWC system

I appreciate your response though :)

ive being getting rainbows from "Australian rainbow trout farm" in Macclesfield. i love the trout as they are such active fish especially in the winter. 8deg water and they were very active! it's closer than places like buxton and the staff were very friendly and helpful. happy to sell just a couple of fish. yearlings for $2 each, fingerlings really cheap when they are in season. only i'm having trouble keeping the temperature down now that it is summer.

anyone let me know if about the SP? i'd if i can buy some by the end of the week .

No body is saying you are wrong Erik, just advising the OP not to push the limits in a new system.

The key to giving the right advice on stocking is for us to be provided the filtration volume (which I have not yet seen). We could assume that "an IBC aquaponics system attached to my current pond" means that there is 1000lts of growbed, but another comment make me think that this might not be the case.

Someone point me to the figure if I've missed it.

OK, I will concede this one. :support:

Im quite happy myself to run the numbers as its proven for me over 4 years. I wont run 1 fish per 10 litres like another states

I do agree, run light especially someone who is new and lighten on a new system. To advise on this system, like people have said, need to know quite a bit more first (GB + FT volume etc)

:)

i have this ibc tank connected with my existing pond (2000-3000Litre) and with a pump (3000litre per hour) running 24/7 and pump the water to another two bio filiter. the pond is about 4 years old, with 30 comets fish, sizing from 8-20. ponds also has 5 water liles, and giant green taro.

does this sound good for 50 in my ibc tank? this would only be a temperatory solution, i will add another ibc connected with this later on, then i will move 25 fishes to the other ibc tank.

Neat system :headbang:

Looking at your IBC FT, its prob only about 600-700L. Personally I would put more than 20-30 fish in there.

thanks for all of your reply. i am thinking from the other side, if i introduce 25 fish in the IBC tank, and the other 25 fish into pond( this is just an assumption, i know once i put into the pond, the fish will eat comets after they grow big), should this be ok?
