Quite a number of years ago I had a 'discussion' with my son about music. At the time he was listening to groups called Pearl Jam,Nirvana and Silverchair . We had a little bet (cartons) which I have never collected.
It was to do with groups which would be still popular in 10 years.
I was going to try and 'rickroll' this thread (too much effort) however the title is awesome music.

I regard awesome as in it lasts its still popular and when its live people enjoy it.

Pearl Jam has been going strong for over 20 years. I was only barely into them when they were popular, probably because my brother wore out Ten. When I listen to them now, I feel at home. Their music was and still is great. Nirvana had quite an impact on the music industry as a whole. Mostly a fluke, but they still have an important place in music. I recall Silverchair was basically the bitch for the alternative station in Seattle. Those kids would do anything 107.7 The End told them to do. It was kind of sad...

I had a similar bet with a friend from college that Cinderella would be remembered more than Collective Soul, I think I lost but maybe over the long haul it'll turn out in my favor.

Whichever bands were hot when you were 18-22 will be the ones you look back at with nostalgia.

I thrash pearl jam, nirvana, silverchair's old stuff and system.

Personally I class awesome music as music I enjoy. I don't care if it is a one hit wonder or a tune from one of the greats. An awesome sing is an awesome song.
