This is my first attempt at a system, have been sitting in the background now for quite some time.. I have used all recycled materials, with the exception of the hose from the pump, and the pipe for the siphon. This system will live on the deck and be an awesome talking point, the kids all are very fascinated with the whole thing! Once this system is running properly, I will move on to building the next one, which will be made from an old deep bath tub as a FT and some 30 gallon HDPE barrels cut open as the GB's..

Welcome Aw191278...

You might want to consider chaqnging the clear tubing at some stage... it's very likely that it's not UV stabilised... and sunlight and heat/cold... will mean it will become brittle and/or crack....

And sunlight exposure... will mean that algae grows in the tubing...

ahh.. didn't think of that! will probably replace it with some black tubing at some stage.

At this stage, there is one salad lettuce growing in there, and 2 spring onions, plus a baby spinach. These were taken from a vertical pallet garden, and the lettuce has been in there for a week and had doubled in size! The others have only been there for a couple of days. I was given some goldfish from a friend who wanted to get rid of them, and so far they seem to be swimming around quite happily.

you might also want to block light out from at least the sides of the fish tank,, or you'll get so much algae that it will consume your nutrients before your veggies have a chance
