Hmmn I could do that but It is comming from the city and it is the same stuff we are drinking. It could have been introduced with the water from the fish farm when I stocked the fingerlings. I am just hoping that it will somehow go away. I have run 10ppt for four days (dead plants) and now have done water changes. so little salt in the water now. Doing last change today.

When it rains it pours.

I got a sore throat from Strep when I was ten, it moved to my kidneys and became a kidney infection. My Mom still warns me to look out for it every time I say my throat is a little sore.

From the description of the red bruises, I'd say internal bacterial infection of some sort. The problem is, once the fish are stressed out, multiple diseases can attack. When I was dealing with ornamentals, this is the point where I'd throw in both gram-negative and gram-positive antibiotics. Would it be possible to separate out healthy broodstock, and hit them with antibiotics? You then probably would just want to breed from them and not eat them. Oh, and wash your hands after handling the fish!

probably possible Janet but very difficult without stressing them further.... Just wondering about the possibilit of starting over.... I hate too but ....

I think I am going to give it a week...if there are significant deaths in that time, I throw them all out and start over. I am going to try to get the big pink Tilapia out hoping they are not sick and see if I can use them to start over. Maybe I can hit them with antibiotics prior to breeding.

I will see how it goes. It looks like I will have to switch out all of my medium as well or at least spread it out in the sun to dry.

We all look for a chance to do things diffferently anyway... maybe this is my chance. :L(

Well, if you're really starting over, just run some bleach through the system. That'll kill pretty much everything. Then you don't have to shovel media around.

A limited dose of hydrogen peroxide might help kill the (external) germs, but you have to limit exposure or you will burn the gills. There was a discussion here maybe a month ago on appropriate use for it. I had been unaware of its applicability until then. Let me go search...

Do notice that the indications on instructions you copied say 'external'. The red bruises sound like we're talking internal. If the fish have open sores or fuzz, that's external.

I couldn't find the discussion on the forum, but found this quickly...

Hydrogen Peroxide: Hold fish in damp net, and drop peroxide on affected spot with medicine dropper, or squeeze it out of a piece of cotton. Make sure to keep peroxide out of gills, and try to keep only on affected area. Allow peroxide to stay on spot for 10 seconds. For guppies ONLY: mix half and half with water. Gather all guppies from infected tank into one net and dip in solution for two seconds and returned to their tank. This is very drastic, try on a few fish before treating the entire tank. Weak guppies will die from this treatment. Treats Saprolegnia, Crown Fungus (dab or drop), Fin and Tail Fungus, Gyrodactylus,
