g'day all,

The tank im looking at buying is 2400*760mm, depth is dictated buy the corro sheet sizes. do you think that this water depth is adequate, depth will be more like 700mm with overflow.

claculate how much water you will need to flood your growbeds, then work out how much will be still in the tank at the bottom of the flood cycle. This will give you an indication (common sense will prevail) of how deep you would need it.

My mega bin tank is 780mm high overall but, since the tank has a pallet arrangment incorporated into it, the effective water depth is actually less than the 700mm that you're planning........and your tank is much larger in area.

My largest of my fish are 250mm to 300mm long now and I haven't experienced any problems....yet!

My current tank gets very low at times. I only intended my tank to be quite temporary, but have ended up having it running for nearly 6 months now with my Jades and Silvers. The most water it ever has in it is about 40 - 45cm and on the flood cycle it is significantly less - paticulalry when there has been a lot of water loss through evaporation and transpirtion and I am sue to do a top up. At times the depth has been about 15cm on the flood cycle. My fish are similar size to Gary's and they do not seem particulalry botherred by the shallow state of the tank - but I would certainly not recommend it being so shallow.

I feel sorry for my fish living in these quarters and very, very soon (hopefully this weekend) they will move to new temporary quarters where they will never have less than 70cm depth.

With my big system (still under design) I will settle for nothing that is shallower than 60cm at any time in the cycle.

Requirements are of course going to depend on the type of fish you want to have also.

Hey VB, have you described your plans somewhere? I looked for something under Members, but nothing on yours... Is this version 2 or 3?

Not yet Dave - haven't settled on them yet. Will post a pic of my rejigged first system once I have finished rigging up the bigger tank.

questioned manufacturer price of adding a second sheet to bring sides up to 1200. price doubles. 760 sounds like it will work ok, silver perch will be in it mainly. how do you work out what percentage of volume the gravel takes? im using a 5-10mm steel stone.

work on 1000 litres of gravel will take about 400 litres of water to fill it. Approx.

don't you mean the other way around monya?
100 litres of water to fill 400l of gravel.
