Are you human?: Some people disagree
Location: Perth, Western Australia
One week without food is fine. I have left my Silver Perch for two weeks a couple of times with no seen problems.

Reading the site though you should avoid the following:-

Leaving the hose running into the tank while away; and
Forgetting to turn the pump back on after doing a check.

It seems there are more problems from friends over feeding, pump and plumbing problems than under feeding.

Enjoy your Christmas break without worring about the fish.

System is up and running!

Pump arrived yesterday, so now I'm in action.

Fish (Jade Perch) will arrive early December. Hopefully the system is ready for them by then.

Currently:
pH = 7.6
Ammonia = 4ppm
Nitrite = 0ppm
Nitrate = 0ppm

Should I be trying to get my pH down a bit? I saw some posts saying to leave it alone. When I filled the tank up (1 week ago) the pH was 7.0 (water from rain water tank).

If the system still isn't cycled will it be safe to put my fish in?

Cheers
James

Your system should be cycled.. and ready for fish... before they arrive....

Just let it happen...

The image must be at least 0 pixels wide, 0 pixels high and at most 800 pixels wide and 600 pixels high. The submitted image is 2448 pixels wide and 3264 pixels high.

Nice start Jhsbaker. There will be no stopping you now. You could probably add a few more plants, I can still see clay :)
