Laguna beats it. Higher volume, less watts.

I think troutman took into account purchase price, quality, max head, experience and reliability.

Ive only ever heard good things about Laguna and Id never heard of the Rio range so I have nothing to offer.

Either way I put my money on whatever troutman says.... he's been doing this stuff for a long time.

I went through this thread (yes, all 40 pages) and did my best to aggregate the pump reviews: http://lowcarbtnper.site88.net/index.php

(btw, in 40 pages of thread you would be amazed at how few actual pump good/bad ratings there are)

Dude! That is awesome. I think it deserves an extra bump.

Not so fast Ron.

Ok looking at the specs the Laguna 2400 100watt pump beats the Rio 110 watt but the pumps I tend to use are the lower wattage pumps as they are more economical. The Rio 50 watt pump moves 5400L per hour whereas the Laguna 55 watt pump moves only 3700 LPH. So, in actual fact if you used two Rio 50 watt pumps you would move 10800 LPH which is more than the 100 watt Laguna!! I tend to use 2 pumps in most of my tanks as that way if one stuffs up, gets blocked or whatever I still have some Bio Filtration happening and can avoid a total loss of fish. At the end of the day the more water I can move for the cheapest price is what I am after.

Hi,

For my garden pond I have an Oase Aquamax Eco 12000:

http://www.swelluk.com/aquatics/oase-aquamax-12000.html

Image

It consumes up to 130W (it has a SFC [Season Flow Control Mode] mode where the flow is based on the temperature). This is an old model so there will be probably be something newer with better power consumption.

It can apparently shift up to 12,000L per hour and has a max height of 5.2m. It also has in inlet for a satellite feeder - so can also shift water from another part/area of your pond/tank.

I have had this pump for over two years now running 24/7 and have never had a problem, not even once when it was pumping dry for a while.

The Oase pumps are German made and have various other pump types for different capacities and water applications:

http://www.oase-livingwater.com/en_EN/w ... pumps.html

They also do 12V versions, but are even more expensive:

http://www.oase-livingwater.com/en_EN/w ... -12-v.html

The Oase pumps are not cheap - so shop around for a good deal - but they seem to be reliable in my limited experience.

Cheers,

Mon

I have had my Jebao Eco Tech pump for about 5 months now I think and its going OK. Way to short a timeframe to be usefull though. I should pull it up and check how much crud is in it too sometime..

What brand is it?... If it was from a big 'B' store, in WA at least, it's probably an AquaPro. I think that's the only brand they stock now, in the two big 'B' stores I frequent anyway.

That was the $49 sump pump one was it Charlie? I must admit mine gets intermittent use over a year and is currently on loan to pump the rest of a swimming pool out.

i'm currently running a big B pump... it hasn't missed a beat but its the high power consumption that i want to only have to deal with if my main pump dies. i am seriously considering the RIO and have the B as a backup.

Actually I think it is a Aquapro now that you mention it. I probably shouldnt have called it a piece of crap because it has been flawless. I suppose I just always assumed it was a cheapo because I think I paid $50 - $60 at 'B' for it.

I think it was just a submersable pond pump/fountain pump sleep, I cant exactly remember as it was some time ago.

I meant to say "it's NOT the pump durability that is the problem, it is the..."

Bloody phone typing and auto correct.
