ive been keeping barra for the last week, but i put 2x600w heaters in the fish tank just to make sure the water doesn't drop below 20. morning temp has been around 22-24 and 24 -25 in afternoon. before we had all this crap weather first couple days i had barra the water temps in the afternoon were Nealy hitting 30 in the tank.

i got my fish from gp, got to catch them myself =), and i throw the floating pellets in and they wont take them no matter how long and still i stand for. so its a bit hard to tell how much to feed them. hopefully they will start to feed as i throw the pellets in.

the first 5 days i put them in i didn't feed them and let them settle in.

I am thinking of building a small two barrel system I can heat while the main system warms up. Really want to do barra but due to the temps (tanks still between 17.5 - 20 c) missed out on them this year. Thought if I had a small system to keep the fry happy and warm for a few weeks it should not matter what the temps were. Having to get silvers for the summer then move them to my smaller seond system to grow out when I get trout next year. Problem is second system can only support around 2/3 of what my main system can.

ive had my barra for nearly 2 weeks, ther 25-30cm in size, i have 13 all up. but having trouble feeding them 6mm floating pallets. water temp today when feeding was 26. i throw a hand full of pellets into the ibc and the pellets go to the edge of the tank (water flow pushes them) but the barra stay deep. i even tried throwing the pellets from a distance. half an hour later the pellets are still floating. so its a bit hard to tell how much to feed them, which will also be hard to grow them to size. cany any one help?

I hate to say it on this forum because there is a lot of people that won't agree, but I would just bite the bullet and feed them sinking pellets. All of the Barra that i have bought over 150mm appeared to have been raised eating sinking pellets as they were either very reluctant to eat floating food or would not eat it at all.
