Well if you change your mind it is there for the taking. These plants spontaneously appear from nowhere and in places you do not need them. Tasmania is covered in them. Come BlackBerry season you can go nuts picking them or die trying. (From blood loss)

Tasmania sounds like it may be similar to the Pacific Northwest US.

I once left my little tiller sitting out in the field for a few minutes while I went back to the house to get something to drink, and when I came back, a blackberry vine was attacking it. I went back to the house again (this was pre-cell phone cameras) to get my camera, so I could have photographic evidence, and my husband, so he could keep it from engulfing me while I rescued the tiller, and took this photo. (Remember, this was a tiller I had been USING no less than 20 minutes earlier!)

Just had another full read Ron, great journey. You can be proud of your effort and advise you have given through the year. Cheers

Thank you cc. I would not have been able to do any of it without this community, and it is only right to give back.

I know it's only been a couple weeks, but how's the heater working out? What type did you go with?

It is starting to get chillish here in S.D., so I purchased a 300 watt heater. At Petco they wanted $43 for one, I ordered one from the rainforest for $17. The water temp has gotten down to 62F. I don't expect it to make it a balmy 90F, I just want to keep it out of the 50's.

It has been sufficient for San Diego cold. The lowest expected over night low for the year is 48F. The system has survived temps that low, so it should be all good. The brand was aqua top.

I finally got around to read your entire thread. I am encouraged by your progress over the last year. You and I share the experience of lost weekends spent digging though it sounds like your clay soil was tougher to dig than my sandy soil.

You backyard now looks both inviting, relaxing and productive! A great combination.

Thank you! My only complaint is that right now it is dark when I get home, so I don't get to enjoy the the inviting and relaxing part!

Winter darkness is an issue for all of us north of the equator I guess. I wish I had more to work in the evening- like the summer just without the heat and humidity.

I have been thinking about installing more lighting for this purpose alone.
