A couple of years ago, I bought a tuber from a garage sale. Thought it sounded like a good filler.
I now suspect it may be an edible variety of canna. The foliage is beautiful once the weather warms up and it loves a good drink.
Can anyone help with a more accurate way of ID as it could well be a good AP plant!

I have a photo of one in flower in one of my growbeds if that is any help. (probably around 6 months ago if that helps) Beautiful striped foliage and coral pink coloured flower from memory. Slugs love the leaves too.

Yes slugs do love the leaves but as yet it has not flowered  It may be that it is too pot bound. I will repot and plant some in a GB. This will give me an opportunity to prepare some and see if we dont poison ourselves :D

If it is pot bound possibility that it will not taste as good as a plant that is not stressed. Cheers

Well! We tried the canna corm last night :) Not bad considering it was probably under stress. We peeled and removed the slightly woody outer layer then sliced. It would be best, I think in a stir fry as the texture is similar to water chestnuts. It has no flavour so could be incorporated in most meals or even sweet dishes with a little imagination. It has earned its place in our GB #2 . Very happy that we are still alive to tell the tale. :D

It wasnt really worth a pic. We didnt do anything other than try a bit raw and boiled a few slices. We did find that the boiled slices turned a greyish colour but that may be due to the tuber being old. Did get a very poor shot of the tuber before it got the chop though

May have to cut and leave in cold water or brush lemon juice on it before cooking. This may help with the discolouring. Cheers
