A big hello to everybody on this forum from Eastern Virginia!

A Quick Into:
I am currently attending marine science college classes, Where i along with a few of my classmates have been chosen to present a research project. I have decided to do aquaponics because it is such an amazing field and has many useful applications in today's market. There are no rewards for this project but a few others have gotten scholarships as a result of having good projects and that would always help.
I am almost completely new to aquaponics except for my common sense knowledge and a few basic setup ideas.
My dad was in charge of a rather large commercial aquaponics setup in college and he should be able to help with any more difficult things but i'd rather do as much of this on my own as possible.

So all in all i'll probably be stopping by this site many times throughout my project asking questions and seeking help.

My big question right now, is: Are there any theories or hypotheses that you have wanted tested that would benefit the field of aquaponics? I'm just looking for some guidelines and i figure that asking anybody with real know-how in the field would probably get me set on the right path.

Thanks again and i hope to chat soon!

Hiand welcome to the forum :wave1:

So many ideas, projects, alterations, inventions and theories have been tested over the years.. thats not an easy question to answer really.

I think the challenge would be to find something new that would benefit the world of AP.

Good luck with your project and let us know how you get on :thumbleft:

Simple things that still don't seem to be firmly supported or opposed.

E.g.

Real scientific study on alternative bed technologies such as AP media+wicking setups.

Quantitative study/Long term tests of effects of various plastic pipes use in AP

Long term testing of effects of different media types

Q: Can AP be profitable commercially? And how? (without grant money and/or training seminars and/or hardware kit sales funding the company, just fish and plant products)

A good question would be how to close the loop further by finding a way to not need feed from external sources. We can dream, can't we?
