Hey Dave ,

I hope you've got everything tied down pretty good.

Our youngest son, living just down the road from you, is saying the winds may reach 75 miles per hour in the Frederick area.

Sandy isn't a normal Hurricane. Big and powerful but Not Hot and Sweaty and the cold following in could well be the bigger problem for many people without power after she passes.

Being hot and soggy after a hurricane might be miserable but being cold and wet can be even worse.

Hang in there everyone.

I just came in from the shop/greenhouse and was all smug
"yeah we got wind, and rain, but the power's still on, and things are cool"
at that precise moment the power blinked off for about 4 minutes
cracked me up

I'm about 45 miles north of Philly

Was pretty quiet around here for a couple hours (took a nap), now it seems to be kicking in again.

It's all over the tv here, nothing else much on the morning news. Your area is famous Dave :)
Thinking of you all and keeping our fingers crossed that it passed without incident.

We've had brief power outage here in New Hampshire, been getting medium rain and gusty winds, nothing to serious.

Thats so bloody annoying from our so called news services, not one mention of it on one of the largest news sites.. http://www.news.com.au/ :dontknow:

I just turned on ABC 24 news TV and see nothing about it.

I only now about it because I am in the middle of a 3 month experement to get all my news from russia. :)

Your source of news definately changes everything.

Especially when they dont even give you the news.

I hope all goes well for everyone involved.

I got visible results on my amonia levels by using a bucket to put some through my grow beds once when we had some power outages.

Block the grow bed's ability to drain and fill it up. Wait an hour and drain it back to the fish tank.

Nice fresh water.

It requires a bit of effort, but it really does work.

A single IBC system would take only a minute or two to flood and drain.

Think of it in terms of a sinking boat.

Bucket vrs bilge pump.... A 10 L bucket and a healthy fear of sinking can bail around 36,000 L per hour

Swing your arms to test...

... one thousand and one, one thousand and two,

I managed mine with a flood and drain 4 times a day, but do a water test or two and you should be able to manage it.

Have you got some handy kids? :)

We just got some rain and some hard wind gusting through. Bunch of branches flow all over, so got to do a lot of cleaning.
But the cool air is a welcome, because it will get our hunting season going.
