After this weekends troubles, I have with some ideas from Johnnie7au built a backup airbubbler that will not block like dc/ac air pump.

Here are the pics, it works really well.

It essentially is a length of PVC guttering with 4 holes drilled through. BSP connectors placed on either side and a pipe going into the water 30cm for 3 of the holes. The 4th hole is connected to a small 20w pond pump in the water.

The water is pumped up and into the guttering and then drains down the 3 outlet pipes sucking in plenty of Oxygen. Each of the outlets are at the same height inside the guttering ensuring even sucking.

The air bubbles are pushed a further 10cm into the water.

Good on ya mate!

Not quite what I had in mind. (close!)

But of it works .. Kewl!

Rather than 30 cm black pipe .. try 4 cm or 5 cm. Black pipe may work better if not submerged. Discharge should be fairly high above the pond and splosh onto the surface. The black tube should protude into the inside of the gutter at about 1 cm or so. (You done that!)

If the guttering is suspended on bricks or something to get it a little higher over the surface, you will get more impact and therefore more penetration. The higher up the gutter is located, the better the penetration which is a positive.

However, the louder the noise and opportunity to lose droplets through splashing will be.

Anyway, you will get vortexes as the air mixes with water leaving the stubby black tubes. If your gutter is 12 cm or so above the surface of the pond you will get good penetration. And a good gravity drop in open air to splosh onto the surface.

Excellent work though. I am very impressed!

I have a couple of other ideas that that have worked well regards filtration if seeing your fish is important.!
