If you mainly just want extra DO at night I would just add a 2nd airpump that runs only at night. Then you could run the water pumps like 5 minutes every hour or two just to keep some circulation in the GBs.

Perhaps I misunderstood.

Ultrasonic vapourisers would be unsuitable for increasing DO for two reasons, firstly they can foul easily and more importantly it takes very little water to produce very large amounts of vapour and so you will find the transducers are designed to produce vapour with low water usage. I suspect ultrasound may have a use in aquaponics (and there is a thread on it somewhere) probably at a higher Khz than used by vapourisers. The same would go for spinning disk vapourisers, they would not be as likely to foul but again are designed to produce large voumes of vapour with small amounts of water.

Essentially what I've been doing for years... during winter nights... without any problems what so ever...

NB ... this was only for my Silver Perch system.... In my trout system... I run large amounts of air... and filtration.. constantly...

If you run your system in this manner is it okay to have a constant flood grow bed?

Too many variables, possible though; you could always install an airlift pump in the GB's if you have a little extra air. :)

How cold does it get where you are Arbe? I live at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains at about 1500 meters elevation. Oir winters can be pretty cold. I am planning on an indoor insulated greenhouse setup with additional insulation on the FTs. I am just worried that I may not be able to overwinter fish an plants without a lot of energy costs. I plan on running a pretty large solar setup to offset the costs, but it may not be enough. In my state we can feed solar back into the power grid during the day and get a credit we can use later. My friend does this with his house and by the time summer rolls through, he doesnt have a power bill the rest of the year. He's been doing it for years now.
