Hello!, finally getting around to introducing myself.

I have been gleaning as much information on this forum as a lurker for a few weeks now & have taken a few tentative steps to building my first test unit. I live in an apartment & wanted to build a herb/salad bar type system to get a feel for aquaponics. Hoping by the time we move to a place with a garden, I could start building one those monstrous 8 GB doodads with serious food fish! :D

I nicked my system from japanaquaponics.com because i thought their ikea hack was an aesthetically pleasing alternative for the balcony. I also chose not to use a Bell siphon because i'm worried that my neighbours will be annoyed by the noise. At this point, I am still looking for the hydroton to fill the GB and wondering if I should try the fish-less cycle or just hope & pray that the goldfish I intend to get will survive cycling.

Looking forward to learning more from all you aquaponics gurus!

Welcome to the forum :wave1:

A neat little salad bar would be a great way to start out. You could try fishless cycling but it isnt necessary. Personally Id just put them straight in. You will need to feed with the appropriate food and not those goldfish flakes, I think from memory people with goldfish use the koi food.
