so is it a male because of his color and therefore mine should be a male as well?

They are beauties, Mantis! They are not as obese as Marc d W's fish but chubbier than IceMan's, it seems.

Males generally have brighter red cheeks, and will develop a lower jaw that 'hooks' up. But all fish will be different in colour. I have some trout that look very pale compared to some that are quite dark and they are from the same system and came from the same hatchery. Body colour is more genetic and environmental that sex related.

not my pic but it gives you a good idea

Tasted great. The sprig of fresh rosemary gives a nice hint of extra flavour

There are posts missing out of this thread. Any how

What a past couple of hours that was. Opened the trout tank and one dead one floated up to meet me. I pulled it out and man it stunk, and so did the water. So, big net out and harvested the remaining 12 trout.

Strange glitch that occured tonite..... you have to allow "pop ups for the site".. to avoid the pic from superimposing on your own image...

So what temperatures do people decide to harvest all thier trout. Temps sitting at 19-20'c so thinking its time to pull them all out. Pulled a 600 and 480 gm pair yesterday for dinner.

Start panicking at 25'c. My temps slowly creep up and then I am usually saved by the next cold front then they drop down to 17 or 18 again. Nerve wracking stuff! Last year I got through to mid december but I don't think I'll try that again. Probably harvest mid november. But I am told in Africa we have tough trout :) I am also quite far south...

I'm finding the same, this being my first attempt. The temps are on 21-22 degrees. The trout still hit food hard, but get puffed out quicker. Then tthe occasional cold spot drags the temps down and buys me more time.

Yep mine are still chugging along nicely too, but I've got my pond wrapped up tight during the day. Managed to keep my water between 16 and 21 degrees C for the past couple of weeks but I'm glad to see the cooler weather taking hold again.
