I am happy with my drain setup now though. More air into tank, quieter and creates a swirl

Can't have that now can we, mine is as loud as i can possibly have it, i love the sound of the splashing water and if it pisses off the neighbours then it's only payback for their teenagers bloody drums that gets thrashed at 2am on a wednesday night...

I decided it was time for a taste test so pulled out 3 trout. The biggest was only 251g so think I'll wait another month before pulling any more out.

This is the end result. Simply filleted, crumbed and served with baked potato chips and salad from the AP and dirt garden Was delicious

Good stuff Bender, I like to see people enjoying the fruits of their labour along the way. Thanks for sharing your harvest with us.

Time for an updated growth pic. The peas are going crazy and have taken over 3/4 of the growbed. Is nearly time for a clean-up once they finish producing. I'll wait until I pull the trout out though in case I upset things by messing around with the plants.

The trout are going well. Water temps got up to 19 degrees last weekend so was concidering pulling them out this weekend. We had some cool weather this week and forecast for more next week so will keep them for a bit longer. Just have to keep an eye on temps and watch the forecast.

Decided to do some more quality control tonight and pulled out the first two I could catch. One was only 197g (hope it is the smallest in there ) and the other was a more respectable 331g. Cooked them whole this time with some fresh thyme, parsley and lemon wedges inside the gut cavity served with baked spuds, broccoli and peas. First time I have a cooked a 99% home grown meal (only the salt, pepper and butter was bought)

Just wondering how your BSF harvester bin is going? did it work for you or require further 'tweaking'?

Cheers iceman. The BSF harvester needs some tweaking. I did have a nice colony happening before winter but they started exiting out of the drain at the bottom. Need to design the filter at the base a bit better I think. Will get around to it soon as the weather has warmed up again now and the BSF will be more active. I did harvest a nice lot of maggots from the fish frames I put in a month or so ago though. My chooks go nuts for them and chase me around the yard expecting me to give them more.

The filter is a must, if you can get some road kill (rabbits are great) they seem to produce better than fish frames. I'm sure my chooks are going to love them when i finally get around to finishing the chook house.

Due to the rising temps forecast for later next week I decided to pull the rest of my trout today. My tank is only 1000L so tank temperature gets up pretty quick so to avoid any HSMs thought this weekend would be a good opportunity.
The largest of the lot was 495 grams so I'm pretty happy with that growth.
