Jamie,

Japanese Quail eat a high protein (25 - 30%) diet.

In the past, we've used commercial rations. If we've been unable to buy a game bird ration, we've used Turkey Starter instead.

My long term goal is to develop a homemade ration for all of our livestock. Worms (or some other animal protein), duckweed and some sort of grain product.......perhaps stale bread or sprouted grain.

Here's my home brewed food.
Fish go crazy for it - but they go crazy for anything :)

Stale bread, scrambled eggs and lettuce.
This batch was a bit too moist and sank. I want a floating feed.
Will use less (or no) lettuce next time).

Nice J, maybe dry it out a bit to get it to float?
My fish don't go for egg unless its fresh from the pan. All because they were not feed trained.
I'm still looking for something better.
Uneaten egg is a bit unsightly in the fish pond and I do not enjoy scrambling an egg every morning for the fish. Its just not a long term solution.

Many years ago .. During WWII and even into the 60's dried egg was a staple for humans!

It looked like little yellow flakes in a 56 lb bag!

I used to feed it to baby rabbits and guinea pigs with milk.

Can you get dried egg anywhere these days?

Could I use those egg sandwiches from vending machines? Do think that will work, they are pretty stale. :)

Nice work anyway. I would imagine drying the 'pellets' would be possible in a dehydrator, you should only lose minimal nutritional value. You could even substitute the bread for wheat germ or meal. Unless you use proper bakery bread, the yeasts and preservatives in the bread will go into the food as well, which may cause bloat.

Plus they would be good for a quick snack...Mmmm!! Dehydrated egg sandwiches....

Yeah, if they can kill a human then they will definitely kill a fish. You know I was kidding right?
