I am running 24/7 CF right now.
The only thing that really didn't like it was Papya, it died very quickly in CF.
Everything else was fine though.

Check my thread AO, not much has changed this year.
I just haven't had time.
You've seen it all before I think.

Hi Tom.
Great to see another AP'er in TL.
Couple of words of warning about your setup.
That timer _will_ fail, they are shite, I went through 5 of them before buying the (hugely) expensive Panasonic model in Surin, try to find a digital one if you can they are much much better and not much more expensive.
Also Koi.... I had quite a few, but during the summer the water got too hot and they all died.

Chock dee na.

Dui.

Hey Dui,

Nice to meet you... 8)

Here's the timer I use:-

These things never fail, I have a hydro company in the UK and the only reason for these things being returned is when customers run a 400W or above grow light through them without using a contactor or relay. They're made in Germany, extremely reliable.

The koi i'm using at the moment are just to cycle the system, i'll be using tilapia in the main system. The IBC is the first time I have tied aquaponics, everything I do in that system is trial and error whilst learning how everything works. Learned a hell of a lot already as it goes, totally hooked...

Where are you based?

Cheers,

Tom.

Edit - just seen you're up in Chiang Mai...

Yep Chiang Mai now, was in Surin for a while, but that didn't work out.
Good to hear you have a reliable one, it looks exactly like the (Chinese) crap sold in the markets in Surin.
The AC "Motor" inside runs out of steam within a few weeks and isn't able to physically move the disc any more randomly failing between always on or always off.
If it's German, it will work forever, hehe.

No seasol selling in thailand, i think.
Use your pee, and maybe sea salt. Search "salt" in this forum.

Cdm,

What worked very well for me was buying a few smallish Koi Carp from an aquarium shop in Pattaya - the water they came with must have been well cycled as it only took around 2 weeks for nitrates to appear.

If you can find an aquarium shop with nice dirty fish tanks and get that water with the fish it will almost certainly get things moving.

Cheers,

Tom.

The dirt from existing system is for to seed bacteria at start up.
But I think Cdm's seasol mean additive nutrient for plant.

Follow this link for the recommended test kits. You have to call them to confirm available stock.

For compost heap or pond, pee in it. Another good use of pee is to pee in a pot at night and the next day mix it with up to 5 gallons of water. Water your flowers with it - they will bloom like hell. I learned this trick almost fifty years ago and it still works today.

Hi cdm. It is also faster than going in the house. Plus old men pee a lot. I don't go back to this thread often so I missed your question, sorry. Old system is all tore out and a new pad poured for the GBs. Soon I will be able to use the new entrance near the pond so then I can order the cement rings that I plan to use. I mostly only go to my thread at members systems. johnras new 2012 system or something like that.
