In CA people go to Jail to await trial or to serve sentencing less then 12 months. Prison is an entire different animal, a lot more violence in prison. Also I believe jail are state run where as prison are federal.

I think that's an excellent idea :headbang: :headbang:

Here in Minnesota one of the prisons use to make farm machinery. My neighbor
hired a guy for his greenhouse and perennial business. The new guy learned horticulture while he was in prison. Turns out the guy is a good worker and knows his stuff.

Anybody know of any pilot programs? I would go up to the St. Cloud prison and make the suggestion but I am still trying to figure out this stuff myself. Maybe this thread could provide info or brainstorming for a hypothetical system. Start with a barrelponics set up? How to provide a road map from there up to a full blown system to support the whole prison population. Surely with all the brains and experience here maybe something could evolve. If not for here maybe somewhere else?

Found a report about aquaponics in prisons. So there is some interest by officials.

A regional West Australian prison currently has a functional AP system. Only powered by goldfish as to not upset people who think trout, barra or other edible fish is too extravegent for prisoners.

BTW I received an email from a warden:

I think the concept has potential but St. Cloud is an intake facility so we do not have a static population making the operation of something like this difficult to sustain.

Hey chippy to you have a link, name or searchable keywords for that place.

Who knows I might be able to learn something about aquaponics.

i wonder if this will change anybody's mind about at least some gun control.. not everyone is prepared to own a gun and face the consequences of their actions....

And how can gun control help that? That changes my mind no more than a drunk driving a car killing someone, should be ban cars, or alcohol. People have been killing each other since we where around. Some on purpose some on accident. You do know that more kids die from alcohol realated accidents than guns. Should we ban alcohol?

I feel bad for the dad; but the son was skulking around someone elses house all in black with a ski mask and a weapon. What did he really expect?

Also he lunged at his dad, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that between the dark and the ski mask he just didn't recognize his dad right away.

Not sure about the law in Conneticut, but in Texas that would be ruled accidental/justifiable, and he would not get in trouble. In Texas you have to prove that he was not in fear of death or great bodily injury. If you can not prove that HE was not in fear at the time of the incident, it can not be manslaughter or murder. Basically you have to prove that he wanted to kill his son.

Texas certainly has good laws when it comes to personal freedom. I think Texas would be my choice if I was ever going to move to the US. Unfortunately the Federal Government is successfully gaining more power over the states as time goes on (with a few notable exceptions).

In Texas if you shot a cop because he was entering your home without permission and notifying you (and you thought he was a burglar) does it get much more complicated ?

If that happened over here I don't think you would have a chance of getting dealt with fairly.

(c) The use of force to resist an arrest or search is
justified:
(1) if, before the actor offers any resistance, the
peace officer (or person acting at his direction) uses or attempts
to use greater force than necessary to make the arrest or search;
and
(2) when and to the degree the actor reasonably
believes the force is immediately necessary to protect himself
against the peace officer's (or other person's) use or attempted use
of greater force than necessary.

You can even set booby traps.

§ 9.44. USE OF DEVICE TO PROTECT PROPERTY. The
justification afforded by Sections 9.41 and 9.43 applies to the use
of a device to protect land or tangible, movable property if:
(1) the device is not designed to cause, or known by
the actor to create a substantial risk of causing, death or serious
bodily injury; and
(2) use of the device is reasonable under all the
circumstances as the actor reasonably believes them to be when he
installs the device.

it makes sense to defend yourself by any means necessary against any threat. Having said that the amount of force employed should still be appropriate to the level of threat (as deemed by the person being threatened and community standards.)
