Hi all,

First post.

Just finalising my 1st set up, adding gravel to grow bed today and then adding approx 200lt of pre cycled water from my tropical fish tanks, should be ready to add fish as soon as i can get some. question is which ones.

Prefrence would be Jad Perch, ive contacted a local fish farm Jades avail late Nov. They only have silver fingerlings at present, but they are too slow growing for me.

anyone assist with choices / love to get some advanced fish if possible.

I would go for the Jades. Nov would be ideal for you, time to get your system cycled. Dont be in a rush to get fish in. And Welcome.

Depends a lot on what your winter temps are jades are ok but anything below 13 degrees you can start loosing them. I live around ipswich and for me I'll pick silvers over jades because of the winter temps.

i've had no problems with Jades over winter (i'm in bellbowrie). My current ones are actually two winters old now. As long as you get them aclimatised to your system and a bit of fat on them over summer, they will survive. I'm thinking of throwing another 20 or 30 Jades in shortly, so if your only able to buy in bug numbers, I may be able to take some off your hands.

as for growth, even Jades are slow. unless you go barra (and I wouldnt in your new system in the first year), you wont get anything to grow to eating size in less than a year
