Catfish, good choice!!!! But you will want to expand your system before you try growing too many of them. I like 10 gallons of fish tank per catfish for grow out and I like lots more filtration that that. This might explain why I like big systems for catfish.

Thanks for the advice! This first run I am only planning on 10-15 fish in the 300 gallon tank. Next run will be more, but I am in the process of building some horizontal strawberry/lettuce tubes which will run around the perimeter of the system. Awesome harvest on that blog post!

Nice stuff. Just sown some cucumber in the growbed, and have a few calcium seedlings on the go in pots.

Missed out on growing them in my first AP year, can't wait to feed my wife more than just broccoli, silverbeet and a few cabbage [EDIT-from my AP I mean...i don't have her on bread and water rations ;)]. Think she is finally coming round.

System is looking fantastic lowspeedchase. You are seeing some excellent growth.

Did you use treated pine for the GB supports? One thing to be aware of is water running off that pine and into you fish tank can give you some fish related problems...

Yes, I believe it is treated pine, here is the link: http://www.homedepot.com/Lumber-Composi ... F35do1lS1w

The only water that could run off it into the tank would be in a crazy rainstorm... but still, is it a serious issue? Should I think about using a different material?

Cheers

At least seal it up so none of the nasties will leach out. I remember as a kid being told to never touch it. We would only use it close to the ground, and build with untreated on top of that.

I have used treated pine on mine. I just painted it so that nothing could leach out of it. After having a lot of water running off the frame into the water i have not had any issues. You would be surprised at the amount of people that have had problems after rain for various reasons.

Any photo updates?

Reassuring and worrying at the same time! lol... anyways, ask and ye shall receive:

Image

Image
Cucumbers are popping up everywhere and seem to be doubling in size nightly... in the first photo it's over 8" (~20cm) long!

Image
Eggplant and romaine lettuce doing exceptionally well... you can see the lines where a caterpillar tried to eat the eggplant but failed...

Image
The pepper plant with one pepper is still pumping, the pepper is almost as big as the plant itself!

Image
The only worrying thing (besides a little algae returning) is what I noticed this morning, it seems the cucumber got hungry and grew her roots right down the drain into the water, look at the rootball! I'm going to post in the general forum looking for advice...

Cheers!

Just cut back the roots so they don't clog the drain. Don't worry, your plant can handle it.
