I also think the shallow GB is not that big of a problem. It just means you have that much less volume of media. One suggestion, though. I am unsure how thick the tan grow bed is, but it may be admitting more light than your bacteria would like. Perhaps wrapping the outside of it or painting the outside black would help reduce light for the bacteria.

some updates on my setup, with the berried crayfish

the fries, they seem to like curling on to each other forming crayfish balls.

btw, does anyone has problem with mosquito larvae growing in their growbed? I seem to have this pesky problem where the mosquito would somehow lay their egg on the growbed.

some of the mosquito larvae did get into the fish tank and was eaten but some did survive in the grow bed. Any ideas on preventing mosquito from laying eggs?

on the mozzies, keep the surface of your gravel dry, looks like a flood and drani there, just re-loop the drain so that the highest part of the loop is a few cms below the gravel surface. should do the trick.

Don't forget to feed the babies! flake food should do the trick

great pictures! With the mossies, maybe the level of water is too high in the grow beds?
