 Help please I am at wits end my nice trout are dying off slowly , all has been well up until a few days ago , they have gone off the food & then one died a couple of days later another went they started to eat again then this morning there were three floating on the top I think there is only about 10 left. All the water tests are good the only change has been a rise in the temperature up to 18deg & ammonia @0.25ppm,any suggestions would be most welcome , I am giving serious thought to take them all out & starting eating fish .
Noel.

Do you have enough DO (Dissolved Oxygen) in your system?

Also, what is your water volume and pH? Are you getting a variation in water temp (say first thing in the morning vs the hottest part of the day)?

What is your system capacities, GB, FT and amount of trout. And do you have an aerator or are you relying on water circulation?

What is the water temp in the afternoon? 900 litres of water starting at 18 degrees this morning on a day where the temperature could hit 28 (like it did on the weekend) could see your water getting too hot for trout, specially without any additional aeration.

What size are your Trout?

As Charlie has asked - we need to know more about your system.

Thanks for the interest guys, My system is a 1000lt fish tank 1 standard BYAP grow bed & 1 smaller GB that I built later. At present I think thee are about 12 Trout left they are about 12inches long & look nice & healthy so I cant understand why the sudden changes. I have 1 areation pump with 2 air stones plus a venturi on the return line from the GB so there seems to be plenty of water movment at the moment the water temp is just under 17degrees I have a shade cloth over the tank also another shade sail over the whole area hopefull that this will help keep things cooler.
Noel.

Happy that you had a good ending to the title of the thread. As Ronmaggi says, much nicer when it is a planned death, after all that is the purpose of the excercise, is it not?
Do you have any photo update of your harvest or current system?
