System looks great mate.
Love the window, awesome. :thumbright: :thumbright:
Great to here your SP trout cohabit as I was thinking of putting a couplke of trout in this winter with my SP.
What sort of goat is that? Would it pull a buggy when fully grown? Ide love to get one and a buggy to cruise around with the Kids, might need 2 goats for that or 1 really big one.

no idea on the breed to be honest, it literally fell off a truck in front of me up in the wheatbelt... along with 300 of her hairy mates, the whole top deck.. she loves cherry tomatoes. not sure if it would pull a buggy, she is pretty light on. stubborn at times too.. but funny enough. made herself a herd out of her and the dog.

cheers on the kudos, once the kitchen is finished i will finally put the whole setup to bed and take some photos.

Great looking tank and fish. The plants look awesome too

love the goat. Not sure if you have deer there. But I have heard goats described as a cross between a monkey and a deer. :)

I showed the picture of your goat to my mates as we ate goat soup for lunch....they all loved it and we had a good laugh....later when I showed my wife, she called me "retarded".

Sounds like your farmyard is a hive of activity Steve! Never really thought of goats as being a pest to aquaponics, but we have a staffy that loves the growbed too, cause she knows there is water in there. Grrr

Real nice looking fish tank. Caught me by surprise when I saw a picture of bricks in the bottom of the fishtank. Really? Interesting idea. Then I see a leg and another leg. Oh just a reflection. LOL.

Like the growbeds too. Where did you pick them up?

Hello All,

Its been a while, some more fish have been and gone, as with the plants. the system is relatively unchanged, I've had 2 sump tank pump failures ("Cunnings") cheapish units..
Had a rat problem next door which was handy for my tomato plants... NOT. If it wasn't the rats eating the stuff, the dogs were pulling at the plants to grab the rats.. lots of tomato plants on the floor over time.

This was less than ideal as it was, but it got better. I got home one afternoon to find a healthy tom plant on the paving and it still had some fruit on it and the plant was not limp, so i grabbed it by the root ball and headed towards its previous home. NOW, as you all know when planting in expanded clay, just hold the rootball and drive your hand into the media, let the plant go and remove your hand .. hey ho express planting... so I did just that and at the point of contact with the media something jammed up under my fingernails OUCH... like real ouch. I had a look at them all, nothing to see... thought to myself, thats interesting and tried again... OUCH... so I tried a little further down along the bed.. with 1 finger... OUCH.. so curious i went to the next bed and tried again, different finger... OUCH... next bed other hand and fingers.. OUCH... HMMMMMMMMMMMM this was interesting now... quick look in the pond, bit of a WSM, shot back to the other end of the system and disconnected the UV clarifier... return to first mentioned bed, gently probed a finger in... ALL GOOD!.. jammed the hand in, still good, next bed the same, next bed the same... fish seemed happier... WHO KNEW!!!! lol inspected the UV to find the seal had perished and let a tiny bit of water in to the element... not enough to trip the shed though..... anyway, all is fixed now and the UV is resealed properly now and back in action...

My little Murray Cods I had grew to around 4 inches and then got ICH and were not tough enough to pull through.. I'm now looking for tandanus tandanus catfish..

so its been nearly a year since my last post...

not much has changed, system still ticking along, only 4 big perch in there and 3 algae eaters which pop up on the glass every now and again.

would be keen to get something big swimming around in there... anyone got any ideas?

cheers

Did you eat all your trout? What all veggies are you growing? I just got mine set up with toms, cucs, lettuce, and bell peppers. Will be stocking channel cats hopefully in a week or so, as soon as the nitrates and nitrites subside. How about some recent pics. We all love pics!

Yeah, catfish would be a good thing... 2-3 big ones would be nice.

My algae eaters are about 175mm long now and I noticed a small one on the glass the other day which was interesting... not sure if they have bred or if its just a runt thats been lucky. To be honest i cant remember how many i put in there.

Looking for large fish if anyone has anything they want to get rid of.

Main pond pump just Died.
It was the original pump I installed when I first started the system, it was an Aqua Nova 10000L/h 135W thing.
off to Schnozza Warehouse and grabbed an Ozito dirty water submersible to get me through until the new one turns up from online.
still only got 4 big silvers... Had to remove and reseal the window due to ants eating the silicone and causing a weep.
