I dont think its from overfeeding cause I only feed them like a pinch or two of food pellets and thats it - a fish did die like one week ago

Was it dead a while in the tank?
Something has caused your ammonia spike

I dont know how long it was in there for....I just woke up check my system saw it was there and got it out.....so it could have died that night and stayed in there until I took it out that morning

So I just rechecked my water levels since I did the 50 percent water change and I have looked everywhere but cant find pool salt so Im not going to be doing that... anyways the ph I think is somewhere between 7.5 and 7.8
the ammonia is at 0.25 ppm which is better then last time
the nitrite levels are over 5.0 ppm
the nitrates are between 4.0 and 8.0 ppm I havent feed them since like a week ago and I did the 50% water change
the only thing im worried about are the nitrites but i dont know is this good since those will be converted into nitrates ????

With nitrites at level 5... and with fish...

You must salt your system to 1ppt... or you wont have any fish left...

Pool salt, or pure sea salt... must be available some where in your area...

And if you were adding any ammonia to your system.... stop doing so...

Take your water volume, devide by one thousand, that is one part per thousand. You may salt up to 3 ppt and not cause any harm. If you have any distilled water, you can use that to dilute the test water to get a better idea of where you are at with the nitrites. The important thing is to not freak out. Stop feeding. Your fish can go for a week without food if need be. Hopefully things will stabilize by then. Sometimes pool salt is called solar salt.
