I had eleven but one started crowing on Friday so Saturday it was in the fridge. Funny thing thou of the ten females two are old and just make compost but of the others I was only getting two or three eggs a day. On Sunday I got five, the axe threat works.

Yes home grow eggs are the best.

Ahhh your chook house looks amazing! Mine are currently split, two living in a tractor and two living in a little coop from eBay (the pairs don't get along anyway).

I was always the "I can never imagine eating one of my chickens" type, but one of mine keeps picking fights with my slipper when it's on my foot. I know a couple of vegetarians that keep chooks, might have to see if they'd be interested in adopting the problem children so I can get some new chooks and move them in with the good girls.

I'd really love to build something like this - the wood you've used is lovely.

Yes Iceman that is what I thought as well, lost my old girl last night so down to eight. I know one of the brown ones is not laying and I get seven eggs about three days a week and about four or five the other days.

They are great fun to watch late in the afternoon.

I really need to get back into things and finish it off...

I need to install the floor, a roost and then the roof. followed by the ramp/ladder and finally the run of 3m x 2m x 1.8m... i know the chooks can handle the cold but i ran out of daylight hours after work to complete... and its too cold for me also!!

I agree the cold stops me doing a lot. I want to build a bigger run so I can raise some meat chickens as well. All in good time have to get the AP system up and running first.

Got a bit more done... finally!!!

The floor, roost, roof and ladder are all in/on... just need to find some funds to get the timber for the run, and true to form that will be over engineered...lol

Solid.secure and comfortable, chook paradise. Better to be over engineered than to have it fall down. Cheers

Thanks fellas,

The roof went on the other day after work. now need to sort out the guttering system (it will feed a 22 gallon barrel that will be an auto feeder system for the chooks.

I have started the excavation works (100mm deep channel) for the run, just need to sort out timber and hopefully start looking at a somewhere local to get half a dozen chooks!!
