Anyone happen to have experience in motorhomes? Converted buses?

I've been looking into them lately and keen to hear anyone's experiences.

We spent 7 months living in a motorhome in Europe last year, and will probably be heading back there in 2013 for some touring in another motorhome.

My Dad has a custom converted coach here in Oz.

My parents bout an ex trans Perth bus for 6 grand, ripped out all the seats, put a fibreglass water tank down the isle. put a floating floor over the top of everything and decked it out. Cost around 30k with trailer n small 4wd. Still going strong about 14 years later with only minor repairs

You have to take one sooner or later... :)

I started thinking a small thing, like a sprinter at first.

Then it became coasters or civilians.

Now, I've looked at a few even larger ones.. It seems that wanting to go larger and larger isn't just an aquaponics thing..

Man, mobile living has come a long way since I caravanned with the family as a kid, you really don't have to rough it much now a days.. :)

I guess it all depends on how many ppl, for how long and if you want to be comfortable.
I have a mazda E2000 thats been converted and there's 3 of us. Its ok for a couple days to a week or two but long term i would like something bigger, sure is handy rocking up to parties with ya own bed tho :)

Where to? How long for? Who is going to answer any tough questions I (or others) may have? ;-)

We lived in a travel trailer basically as our starter home for a year and a half. My advice is don't buy new, nothing depreciates faster than a recreational vehicle. Let the first owner eat that loss. In-laws have a full sized "class A" "bus" and drive it all over and go South for the Winter every year, been to Canada, Florida, out West all over. They just sold their house so that is their house now I guess.

They say the C class ones (like the Sprinter) are a waste because once you get one you'll always think it's too small. And they aren't cheap for the smallness.

Joel hasn't bought a vehicle (not including forklift) for nearly 6 months and in his fleet there is no bus or motorhome, yet.
Then he could sleep in the parking area and never have to leave work lol.

There was a caravan and camping show in town yesterday... wow, some of those things are massive. We are looking at getting a camper trailer next year.

EB, I would hire a motorhome to start with, then see how you go for space. Depends how far you want to travel, larger vehicles = more expensive to run. But then again you do have a lot more comfort.

I have always had caravans. Current one is a 22ft Millard with all the creature comforts that I tow with a 100 series Landcruiser diesel. 10 years old now and just as good as the day I bought them. Just be aware of the tables with single support leg, everytime you want to get up, the table wobbles and coffeee goes everwhere. Cafe style diner is the best imo. Toilet in the shower is PITA, separate shower and toilet is best.
