I try to only make those messes while she is there, that way the gradual increase in messiness does not startle her, plus she sees how hard I am working, so I get some sympathy points.

I made a new GB today  and filled my system with 6mm quartz

I made the new GB with a stand pipe. wow it is so much better than a over flow drain on the side, you can control the water level so easy 8) with less plumbing

Nice work - yep, can't beat a standpipe for simplicity, control, and no-point-of-failure !
