If exposed to sunlight, can white plastic barrels be used for wicking beds?

Will white barrels promote algae in the water reservoirs and root zones, if they are not painted?

I'd rather not have to mess with painting barrels.

If you dont want to paint them maybe wrap some shadecloth or something around them. I dont think you would have too much issues in a wicking bed situation thou.

Thanks Charlie,

Maybe I'll try wrapping them with something. My strawberries and carrots are starting to take of in my converted tank wicking bed so I'm encouraged to expand into more barrel type wicking beds.
