The fish tank barrel is done! Drilled the holes with a hole saw and secured the couplings with silicone sealant. The inside is coated with bitumen paint, as per the others.

Pro tip!
If you are:
a) left handed;
b) using a hole saw; and
c) drilling holes that are at waist-level ...
... hold the drill in your right hand instead of your left. If the saw sticks, the drill will spin anti-clockwise, twisting the handle out of your hand and into your testicles. :shifty:

Fuzzy, as a left handed carpenter I completely sympathize with your drilling dilemmas!

Here's a few more pics of the proposed layout. I may need to leave the storage barrel out of the design, as the site where it is going to go is a little smaller than first thought. Once the site is cleared I'll have a closer look at whether this will work or not.

I'm not sure that the pine will hold up to the GB + clay + water, so I'm planning to reinforce it with angle iron and paint with bitumen. Suggestions welcome if you know of a better alternative!

Can't you just get around it... by running the drill the opposite way.... :lol:

I am currently filing my patent papers for left hand drill bits! No, not really, but I am surprised they aren't made. They could include a set of new arrows to stick in the drill for forward and reverse.

Thanks guys, I'm quite chuffed at how the project has turned out so far. Fingers crossed it will hold water!

As for left-handers, it hasn't been a problem before. This is the first time it has bitten me - quite literally - in the nuts.

I have seen a lot of silly warnings on things, perhaps there should be a new warning: Not intended for testicular impact.

I'm watching with interest Fuzzy, there are some spare barrels down at the old man's place I might be able to appropriate.
