Been a while since I've updated my thread.
Today the temp hit 34 degrees in melbourne.
My other 2 systems hit 23 degress but the chilly tank was still on 20.

Currently I have the system on a 2 hour flood and drain cycle. (45mins on and 75mins off). according to my power meter my tank has not turned on yet. It seems that the combination of the f&D and the insulated GB & FT seem to be keeping the water temps lower.
Trout in the other system didn't hit the feed much today but they went crazy in the chilly tank.
here's a vid!!

regards

Matt

yep, water hit 22 today and trout totally off the food. Will pick out the bigger ones this weekend and let the smaller ones have the space and O2. The chilli tank setup is looking good - love the big lettuce...

:wave1: G'day Mattyry, was wondering where you'd been hiding, soooooo jealous seeing all those trout you've still got. Are you feeding them? or only sparingly?
Guess what, I've still got one! He was the last one survivor before the wedding and he got thrown in the sump while we went away, low and behold he was still swimming when we got home and is still going strong.

Like you said, maybe March and I'll start to give him a push again. He only gets a couple of pellets once a week or so at the moment. Water temp in my system has been around 18-20C lately.

WELL DONE MATTY
lost my small trout in the heat wave....
excellent power usage also. Shows what insulation alone can do...

yep, I agree,
at the moment I have the freezer turning on at 23 degrees, trout will eat feed till 22.
i think that if I had it switching on at 24, it may of not even ran :dontknow:
bit more shade and air and who knows?

Well its come to the end of the hot season and the chilly tank has done its job in keeping my trout alive.
the smallest is only 6 inches, and the largest is about 10 inches
In the next week I'll transfer them into the bigger system an get the feed into them.

yeah sorry guys I've been away for some time, and i'm still away. will not be back till jan/feb 2013.
The travel bug got me again!
the system was decommissioned in May. I'm spewing that I didn't get another 9 months in to the trout.
some of the last ones i harvested had eggs inside?? and were touching 500grams. imagine another 9 months in to them?
When I get home I'll kick the system off again and may even look at improving or developing a cooling unit that is affordable.

regards

matt

Finally I'm home,

Got my Chilly tank up and running cycling on some humonia, but my main job has been building a 1.9kw solar array. Here's the link if you are interestedhttp://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=7706&p=368907#p368907

I've added a shade to the chilly tank to limit the solar load and to protect the plants a little.

Here is some photo's.

regards

Matt
