Another thing with Pleco is that after being in an aquarium for awhile some will get lazy and only eat fish food.

They are great in aquariums, they eat all the algae.
That is all the care they need, they are very hardy fish.
6" aquarium would be minimum I would recommended.
Nope, they wont bite. I let all my nieces and nephews touch my Gibbi. Their skin is really rough, like sandpaper.

Thank you for the information. But I think you mis-understood the size of my fish. My pleco is one foot plus.

I have about 6 cheapo algae eaters... the oldest went in about 2 years ago and they were about 4-5cm long.. they are now around 12-15cm long and very healthy. the others range from 6-10cm and 5-18months in my tank. I think i paid 3.95 ea from the locall pet store... my plecos keeled over ages ago and never seemed to chomp as much as these guys do.

that's good to know. I was going to buy some but was told they wouldn't survive outdoors unheated in a Perth winter. What type of fish are they?

Know the feeling.. Before committing to buy another 6' aquarium tank I ran around the house with the tape measure and found the ideal spot where 1800mm will just fit.. Bought it and got it home and it's 1830, so it overhangs a door frame by half an inch..
