Perhaps the double hit of Chlorine and Fluoride at once?

The data on fish are quite variable but fluoride toxicity to fish appears to be less in hard water than soft water and greater at high temperatures than low temperatures. The concentration of fluoride lethal to 50% of groups of rainbow trout (LC50) exposed for 20 days in laboratory experiments carried out in soft water, ranged from 2.7 to 4.7 mg/litre.

Update

Those of you who said oxygen, I think you got it right, when I went to check on the SP this morning I noticed them all at the surface, I thought they where just loving the freedom without the trout, when I checked them this afternoon, noticed they were still on the surface, they were not sucking air, but would occasionally just surface.

I added another pump with some air and 30 minutes later they were back to the bottom swimming around.

I just found it strange and scary that I lost them all that suddenly without any warning.

Lesson learnt though.

Don't worry about the joke superveg, did bring a smile to my face

the joke was a risk I guess, but jokes always make me smile in situations like that...

Its interesting fluoride is poisonous at concentrations that are in our drinking water, I would have expected higher concentrations...

Maybe the DO was close to the limit to the fish, and when you cleaned that tank something caused it to drop that extra bit and take them out :support:

Tap water has less than 1 ppm, which is less thana half of the concentration cited
