Will fish like it if I put some rubble in the tank, and perhaps some plant features? If so which ones?
What do you put in your fish tank?

Rubble isnt really a good idea as it traps a lot of the solids in the FT.

You really want to keep your tank clean Christian - food and poo will get trapped in the rubble and pollute the water, possibly killing your fish. You want all the waste to be picked up by your pump and put into the growbeds where it will break down properly.

Yes I was just feeding our big barramundi that's in an aquarium and he has normal aquarium gravel on the bottom of the tank. He flicked the gravel with his tail and there was a horrible big cloud of muck kicked up in the water, that filled his tank.. Now I wish we'd never put gravel in there in the first place but everyone with aquariums does it...

But everyone with aquariums cleans out the under-gravel filters frequently (weekly) and cleans the gravel itself regularly (monthly)... PITA to have to keep doing it all the time.

You CAN have gravel and rocks in an AP FT, but you're going to greatly increase the maintenance load, when AP is supposed to be "easy", so its not recommended.

Pretending that I can commune with my fish:- my fish feel right at home in their HDPE tank because this is their home, and other than Gavin's raising ponds, it's the only home they've ever known and ever will know. So long as the water is clean and oxygenated, the fish are fed and have room to move and grow, and are protected from as many stressors as practicable, this is as much as we can do for the fish without increasing stressors and work on ourselves.
