I go there to get ideas and buy things, spent $750 this time and thats a cheap year, soon adds up with tools a couple of nice blocks of wood and a bowl made by one of the guys from the woodturners club.

Hey nice bowl Freebz. Is that turned from Jarrah burl? The grain is really interesting. It must have been very hard to turn and looks really well done.

got the silvers from golden ponds $2.50 each, the aussie lady there is much nicer on the fish than the asian bloke. pretty good 20, i think that makes it nearly 50% off doesn't it but don't have the capacity to keep them nicely, hmmm may need to start eating the bigger ines in the main tank...

last years effort at the wood show was over $1200, it's the only good chance i get to buy good quality tools (not bunnings or supercheap stuff to get by on) and we always come out with a couple of hundreds worth of turned or sculptured things.

EB
i think i've been in to that one several times but mostly looked around at the pretty things, whenever i'm down that way i have a car full of camping/fishing gear so can only get small things

so the drain from my GB is hitting the surface of the FT too fast and killing my little ones, have decided to pipe the drain to enter the FT sub surface but no longer seems to be foaming as much as when dropped from height, would it be producing the same amount of DO but is already dissolved when it exits the pipe or should i add a venturi or similar

Bunson had a neat little vid of his set up, he had his standpipe extended right down into the water of his FT and it dragged a good amount of air through into the FT. Maybe search his thread freebz. I believe he had quite a large flow though.

So i can definitively sat that barley doesn't like aquaponics, i got 3 to germinate out of 2 handfuls of seed, but spelt wheat loves it, germinated in 3 days and after 4 weeks is about 15cm tall and biding it's time till it warms up (it's bigger than my mates stuff and he's a farmer and had over a month headstart!!).

lost 3 or 4 of the new silvers in the IBC this week cos the water from the drain was hitting the FT water too hard and making any that came within a foot roll onto it's side and float to the edges before righting and swimming away (obviously some didn't) but all sorted for now, have made up a sub surface drain that sits about an inch below the surface when the bed is at full flow, my auto fill/stock trough float valve turned up this week so may fit that tomorrow if i can find the urge on a sunday.

ok time to update...

after throwing some Spelt Wheat into my brand new IBC two weeks ago these little babies popped up, 3 day germination and they're already over 100 mm tall.

spelt in my main system thickening up, 6-8 weeks old i think, can't remember too much going on at the moment.

the rest ticking along nicely, still picking cucumbers though i think the vine has had it now, basil is now resembling small trees or rather large bonsai after 9 months of operation (was planted as a fodder plant as we had a rather large amount in the ground.) thought it was supposed to seed and die, these have gone to seed and kept on truckkin while the rest in the ground died on schedule.

still have 30ish fingerlings going strong in the IBC, way too many i know will be shifting them into the main tank when barra season comes or anything adverse or out of the ordinary starts to happen, keeping a close eye on it.
