Personally I think people design their first systems with siphons because of some "coolness" or something? Siphons can be finicky things and suddenly stop working or cause other problems. I believe in KISS and this applies even more to beginner systems.

With GBs located above the FT you can setup a nice CF system with a smaller pump, or a timed flood and drain system utilizing a larger pump and of course, a timer.

My thoughts exactly. I was in love with the idea of setting up a syphon too, but after I got it all working on CF. Now its all working beautifully, I have no desire to introduce the risks of syphons... 1c

+1 the first diagram anyone should see should be a FT pumped up to a bed constant flood, draining back to the FT. With a big sign saying "Start Here" LOL

keep it simple. theres no need to use siphons unless you can't put a hole in your grow beds, whack a stand pipe in there much easier to manage.

My affnans have been working flawlessly. I would not hesitate to recommend them to any beginner. All it takes to convert them to constant flood is to remove the bell. Not that I have felt the need.
