I'm glad you didn't try checking the "traditional/old fashion" way.

LOL,
There are actually pictures of me in a few places on the forum and elsewhere.
But for aquaponics in general I don't think gender makes all that much difference unless we are talking about who needs a funnel to collect hummonia.

But that's kinda beside the point in this thread seeing as this is supposed to be a commercial farm, I made a point of cycling up these systems up with Ammonium Chloride instead of the free and natural source.

Oh by the way, did I ever mention that the week after we got the dog, we got a cat.
The dog seems to think we got the cat for him and we are lucky he is a patient cat. Cat's name is Dribbles (he drools)

Thank goodness he is a patient cat, the dog hasn't had his nose scratched or eyeballs clawed out yet.

Well I used the Proline Ammonium Chloride product and I followed the directions on the container that said it takes 1.13 grams per 100 gallons of water to dose to 1 ppm.

So if you can figure out your total system water volume, you should be able to measure the powder out by weight, dissolve it in a small container of system water and pour back into the system. Please be sure to only do this in system that DO NOT YET HAVE FISH or other animals in it.

I generally only dose to between 1-2 ppm when I fishless cycle contrary to many other people's recommendations. I just dose one day and I'll measure the next day, if ammonia and nitrite are low (like around .25 or lower) I will dose again to between 1-2 ppm. If ammonia or nitrite are above .5 or 1ppm I will wait before dosing again.

Perhaps this method is a bit slower but it also avoids extreme high levels and most overdosing mistakes. Slow and steady usually does win the race in my experience.

Now I was doing this in new plumbing and new tank and troughs but my towers were all still live so I was starting with cycled media so it wasn't like real complete fishless cycling.

I once had a cat and dog that were inseparable. Our dog picked up on the fact that we would scratch the cat behind the ears and she would do the same. When our dog had puppies, our cat was right in with her trying to help nurse the puppies. Everyone was affected when the dog died, but it was apparent that the cat was the most affected.
