came home tonight with every intention of getting started on the single tote system, got distracted by a dead fish, i did a good check this am, and had to come home at lunch time because i forgot something and had to check (you know how it is!)
anyways, saw the dead fish, and my first thought was that it was eggbound, when i pulled it from the pool i noticed a couple of spots of fungus.. i've read that when yp are stressed, they're more susceptible to it, (just like any other fish), so i decided a quick check was in order (my wife got me a rapala fillet knife that was still in the package)
anyways, i had to take some pic's, only a few cuz i didn't want to cover the camera with fish guts.. so here's the pic's

and since i had my fillet knife, i had to try to fillet it, (usually they're scaled when i fillet), but it's been 30 years since i've fillet'd a fish.. (i need some practice!)

i got a marmokreb this spring.. it's in berry for the first time right now..
i wanted to finish my tilapia setup this weekend, but if course i drilled a hole to big and had to replace a fitting (which meant a trip to the hardware store  ) after the tilapia tank is setup, i'll be using 2 55 gallon glass tanks for marmokrebs, but still not sure what densities i'll be looking at

i haven't eaten any, i have quite a few papershell crayfish destined for the table in july when i take vacation - which will be my first perch harvest as well

next week i'm going to virginia for a class for the whole week (for my job)... gotta have someone watch over the systems for me, and it makes me a little nervous

what the (biological) name off the papershell crayfish?

i'm looking for crayfish which i can keep at low tempt.
thinking of making a floadbed and the make it a littlebit deeper so i can put crayfish under the lettuce (orso), this floadbed wil also akt as a sump maybe..
but i'm still figure out the best system.

all off this will be situated in a greenhouse, so the plan is to put the basisbreedstok of crayfish inside my house, and every spring put the little offspring outside.

i've i read and see your system correctly you are also keep the breed and "feed" stock seperately?

i checked with pond suppliers in my area to find them, the real name is Orconectes immunis.. native to north america.. it looks like the only species native to the netherlands is
Astacus astacus
but these have been found there:
Astacus leptodactylus (introduced in the 70's and now considered "native"
Orconectes limosus
Pacifastacus leniusculus
Procambarus clarkii (this is the crayfish that is most often seen in crayfish boils in louisiana)

it's been a rough week.. flew to DC sunday for some school (for work) - and was supposed to fly home yesterday at about 5,,, all flights cancelled.. rented a car, and what should have been a 7 hour trip was more like 10 - spent 3 hours trying to get out of the city!
anyways, 3rd on my list was checking the system over.. growth shocked me, i'll probably have to pull out the tomatoes.. a few varieties of veggies died out, but i can finally see more than little swimming eyes in the rosy red minnow tank, and there were a bunch of baby marmokrebs.. fish looked good..
lots of work to do, but, i'm quite happy to say that my first grandson was born yesterday! (they named him Maximus)
so we'll be going to visit them today, and i won't be getting much done on the system for probably a couple days,, gotta recover!

FYI you can get yellow perch any size from this guy:
Willoughby Ohio Aquatic Farm: 440-417-2260 (Mike Cosper) or 440-667-5020 (Ken)

They also sell them full size and filleted. :-)

Hey Keith, nice setup. That link for your supplier didn't come up with blue tilapia. Did you have to order them special?
