If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel click down on it over a link and it will open it in a new tab... good little trick...-

In FF 2.0 you can right-click on where the tabs are and you can undo close tab if you accidentally closed one. An in history it shows recently closed tabs.

Did you go here? http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ Click download firefox free (green button). It will ask you to save the download to your hard disk. Then run the .exe when it is finished downloading.

(Watch that one bring the banter worms out of the woodwork).

Tim.....what's the advantage of using Firefox over Microsoft products apart from the fact that it's free? While I manage well enough with the Microsoft range of products, I'm much less knowledgeable about alternative browser culture.

Most of the advantage (apart from it being free) is just that it sticks it up Bill Gates' nose....

after that (and probably because of that) it's a bit like the apple mac cult....
lol

Ahhh... don't shoot me guys... really I do quite like it

Gary, another advantage is that most viruses are targeting the Microsoft environment because they get more bang for the buck that way....more users of Microsft than any other program. Wo while others are getting hacked or having to protect themselves, the mac and open source crowd are relatively safe from hackers.

Open source programs usually come out with some pretty innivative features before the microsoft people do because everyone who wants to can have input as to how they the software functions. A great example of this is FF tabbed browsing. that has been out for a while but Microsft just came out with that feature in Version 7.

Err.. sorry DT... but the fastest growing virus threat are targeting...

(1) MSN

(2) Mac OSX

(3) Blackberry and other mobile telephony

(4) Fire Fox

Despite (and without debating the respective merits) everything Microsoft is fairly quick to patch flaws as they become known...

If users were to apply all the relevant security patchs and adopt some really simple habits, most virii would become non events.

The other thing people could do is lobby their elected representitives to jail and bankrupt all those involved in the adware/spyware/malware and virus writers and purpertrators gild...

Then again if they were just to demand laws that banned advertisements on the internet and within programs a majority of open doors would suddenly be closed again or at least capable of being closed again....

But that would really stick in the claw of those that own/distribute/use programs like MSN and most of the other popular software applications and sites....

You get what you deserve... (excuse me rant over)

Edited :

DT not dissin ya.. is quite true

A few reasons Gary.... FF is much more secure IMHO, IE7 has claimed it is more secure except it was broken within a day, and 10-20 updates/patches later.

Firefox installer: 5 MB, Updates ~500KB. IE7 Installer: 25 MB Updates:5MB
IE7 has to update from windows update and doesn't work through proxy. Firefox alerts you whenever there is an update, and asks you to install it. It takes 1 minute and restarts FF with all your tabs back open. FF only has to update every month or two.

Open source is the bane of Micro$ofts existence, hence it is good. At the same time you download FF get Open Office http://www.openoffice.org/ it is 93MB but it is free and does everything MS Office does if not more.
