... So if I bottle it properly how long will it last? not taking into consideration giant rats that will come along to sample it.... I think I prefer smaller portions as I get tippy on light beer

Mek Most brews should be ok for 12 - 18 months, but Ive never managed to keep one for more than a year.

Dr Bee, +1 on the Ales! For me they seem to shine in homebrewing, I think our temperature range favours the Ale yeasts, and choccy stouts, porters etc have sooo much flavour and character!

I was on a gluten free diet a little while ago, and there were only 2 choices of beer, they were around $90 a slab.
I usually drink home brew from "U brew it" and tried a gluten free recipe. To start with I couldn't drink it and left it in the fridge for a while.
Now after aging it tastes better, not sure why but it's drinkable.

I'm off the gluten free diet now and much happier with my beer outlook.

Off to dawn service first thing, then my boys birthday. Going to the Moody Cow in Fergy valley for lunch and a few ales. Any recommendations?

Had a great day, starting with dawn service. I tell the kids even if we go every year of their life, and it rains every time, it barely rates a mention against the hardship those boys have gone through throught-out the war years.

Moody cow. It is the first time I ever have been to a brewery and loved every beer on tap. Pilsner, ale, pale ale, irish, dark, even the citrus beer. There's another one there too, but my memory for names falls off after a few pints. Wanted to drink them all again, but was starting to feel weary (and a bit wobbly). Oh had a ggod feed too. Better than pub prices, atlantic salmon on ceasar salad, and the best lemon tart I've had for a while too.

Good area for the kids to play, footballs, cricket sets, frisbees, play equipment. I absolutly recommend it. Wild bull brewery just up Pile rd too if you want to sample others. Gome nice wine along the strip as well.

If you are down in Bunbury, do yourself a favour and go through Ferguson Valley and try out the drops. Only 20min out of Bunbury.

Anyone got an old brew kit they dont want anymore and would like to sell? Ill pay for shipping etc

Yes, that's it - a fermenter thingy. I've got some other stuff you can also take off my hands - a density measurer thingy and if you wan to use crown tops instead of screw I've got a press to put the tops on.

PM me about picking it up. I can keep it for as long as necessary if you've got a friend making the drive from Perth to Kal.

whats the best stuff to use to clean out beer bottles? just bleach or something similar?

I've had good success over the years just using hot water, but I always wash them as soon as I pour out the beer and again just before bottling. Most people recommend a sterilizing agent, and brewshops would like you to buy a cleaner and a sterilizer... But I've never had too many dramas without all the extra costs

When I was home-brewing (a few years ago now) I used to just thoroughly wash the bottles with hot mild-soapy water, until the first time I had a batch of infected bottles, then I used sodium hypochlorite (Brewers wash) to give each bottle and cap a quick rinse before filling. A little bit of it goes a long way, so it's not that much of an expense to incur.

I always sterilize the fermenter (I use one called pink steri, not sure what chemical it is) But I can't recall ever doing the bottles.
I recently put down a brew with those plastic bottles for the first time, and they seem ok.
It was a chocolate mahogany porter, 3 months old and tasting pretty darn good.

Sorry, yes, always sterilise the barrel otherwise..... eeewwwww

But then, an infection in a bottle will still kill the beer, so I used to sterilise them too and all the equipment just prior to use.
