Long time no update, sorry. Bussy with the jamboree, and the book.

Its hard to check the state of the catfish. They like to hide, so you dont really see their condition. It was netting time.

I dare to dream big!

So I got a phone call, and an e-mail from the Hungarian Rural Ministry (agricultural ministry) and now we can say:

"CEAJ 2012 is patroned by Dr. Sándor Fazekas Hungarian Rural Development Minister."

13 hours of presentation
39 participants + a dog
36 mini systems
3 days of aquaponics

For the first look we are completely different in all aspects, but in a few second can find out that our harts beat the same, and our thoughts echo from eachothers tounge.

We have formed a hardcore enthusast, an aquaponic band of brothers and systers, and how it happened was magical. It was all arround in the air like it was perfectly natural. I had the same overwheling feeling again like last year.

Meeting a fellow aquaponic enthusast is priceless, for everithing else... you know. ;)

I will write a more detailed report soon. Presentaions, will be available free online in pdf and video as well. We have recorded a tonns reports for a short reportfilm on aquaponics, jamboree and school systems. This too will also be available for free, just have to do the post prouction.

Lots happened since last report about the system.

Early last week I got some african catfish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarias_gariepinus from a leftover test branch of the university. They are completely different bahitat than welsh. They eat, not affraid of anithing an grow like hell. They should be a perfect summer fish, if one could buy it, but it seems they dont sell them in fingerlings, at least not yet! Got to work on it!

Life of a test fish is not always fun!

We are close to the longest days, temps reach 34-35 daily, and the night are arround 20.

System water temp reached 24,5C yesterday, and my last remaining trout started to suffer. He came up to the surface and slowly circulated arround the bubblers. I thoght this is the limit, this is the last sign. It was. My first trout season is now officialy over.

You know I was affraid from trout, I had tragedies, and succeses all the bad and the nice with them. Finally I can say I fell in love with them and found the perfect winter fish. They are fun, easy to do, and tasty. I cant wait to start over it all over again in september. Till then Im still searching the summer fish. Its now 26 Wels Catfishes, and 10 African Catfishes. Both could do, and now I'm confident that they would! African is not a problem, but currently imposible to buy. Wels is a beast and got to teach, but I have found out so much about them that I'm confident that I could do it!

So here is the last video mad on the last day of my brave and beloved test trout, he was 630 grams.

Hi Zsazsa. Nice work on the African catfish. There is quite a bit of info online about how to breed them. Seemed moderately difficult but not overly so. Perhaps you can breed your own. I have still not got any , but as soon as my greenhouse system is up and running I will get some going.
