I'd use colors to simplify the naming TCL. If you change a system it would still be the same color instead of always having to rename them because of any change that altered the system. Just put the color codes with system descriptions down in you signature.

Well, I probably better not denote the number of towers in the system designation since that is likely to change.
So the new "Big system" will have something like B900 in it. (question is, do I number the 4 stalls on with 1 being the end where most AP will be? Or 1 being the end closest to the house?)
Or do I not even worry about the stalls since it is possible that I will put two of the smaller thank in one stall (but if I do that I will probably connect them together as a single system.)

Don't worry people this is just the mental wake up time while I try to drink the coffee, not taking time away from working to ponder it.

Considering how close you are to "the happiest place on Earth", why not go with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto...? You could make one side girls and the other side boys. Then it would probably be really easy to find some stickers to slap on each tank of that particular system's character name.

"And in the Snow White system, I'm trying black crappie." (That system should have one big tower and seven little ones)

Ya know Jimbo, I once worked for the "RAT" I don't think I can go there. Went from once upon a time being a really family friendly place to work to becoming something a bit more like corporate greed and all the waste that goes with it. While I might like to pay homage to the Disney Ideals of old, I don't want to get confused with what it is now and if I did, I would probably get sued.

Alright Then. I think the Far stalls will be Designated North.
So we have;
NB900T in the final stages of setup.
SF300T with fish and ten towers.
SB3000 is the back rain water tank.
SEF3000 inside is the storage stall and outside is the front rain water tank.
NF9000M will be the next setup I expect to start on and that one will be media beds.

That leaves me with 3 more stalls to work with. One of them (perhaps SWB) will be the planting/harvesting workspace as it is close to the main tower area and where I think I'll be setting up the seedling house.

Ok better get out there before the sun is too hot again. Got a bit of sunburn yesterday.

Were you there during the Eisner years?
the customer experience seemed to go downhill during his reign. I have a friend who worked there a couple of years ago and loved it, but maybe she couldn't compare to the better times.

there was a daycare center near our house that had a bunch of disney characters painted on one of their exterior walls.. very nicely done.. they got sued and had to remove the mural... corporate greed is alive and well...

good thing you have lots of aloe for that burn!

It seems that you have settled on something along these lines:

System name = (location identifier) (usable volume in gallons) [optional descriptor: M, T, etc ]

I hope it works for you. Good luck with your continuing expansion, TCLynx.

Thanks PLJ, yea just needed a little help narrowing down some method for my maddness.

Jimbo, Yea I was there during part of the Eisner years and I had friends who had been there for long term before that. Some of them (long timers that everyone though would be there till they died) up and left because they couldn't stand it anymore. Now how much some one likes it may also depend on what they are there for and for how long. It is often a really great place for people who are just interning in certain fields for a limited period of time, they get experience and are not really expecting advancement with the company and get to carry "Disney" on their resume off to some other place where it will carry some weight (doesn't really carry much weight in a job hunt around central FL other than simple proof you held a job for some length of time I suppose.) One of my favorites about Disney is when I got the "sorry we don't have any jobs for you at this time letter" after I had been working at Animal Kingdom for over 4 months. "HUH" Obviously the HR department can't manage to check the database to see if the resume they finally got to a year later is already in the system or not.

Yeah, Eisner did make Disney a fiscally viable company again when things were looking bleak from that standpoint, but it was definitely a "sell your soul-deal with the devil" type of thing that happened. Since his ousting, they seem to have struck a better balance of making money and delivering the experience.
This is of course my consumer perspective not having ever worked there. And, Animal Kingdom is my favorite park, BTW.
My friend started out working as a cashier in one of the stores and advanced into management. She was there for about five years and then her and her husband moved back home to NY. She always talks about missing working there, but their goals are heading in another direction.
Anyhow, enough of that. Glad to see all the progress. I wish you lots of confusing naming as I know your systems will probably constantly get modified for the better.

So nothing really to show for the past few days. There had been a bunch of towers just lying in the troughs so I set up a work space and cleaned the housings but only rinsed the media. The media is now placed in the troughs and I'll keep the housings hanging up in the fish shed to keep them nice and clean until I plant them.

I learned something (which might be why I wasn't typing much the other night) wear gloves if you are going to be working with even 3% H2O2 for very long. It was fine at first, ya know it's just hydrogen peroxide, dip my fingers in it all the time when cleaning stuff like tooth brushes. However, I mixed 1 cup per gallon of water of the strong (35%) food grade stuff and I was soaking the tower housings and scrubbing off the algae. As I said, it was fine at first. It stung where I had a little scrape on a knuckle but that is to be expected. What I didn't expect was that later, after working for a while, my finger tips/fingernails started to hurt!!! Really hurt, well at that point it's too late, you can rinse your hands in fresh water all you want, the fizzing has already gotten under the nails and you will just have to wait a few days for the pain to go away.

The real trick is finding gloves that will actually hold up to working while also keeping the peroxide off my fingers. Ya know most cleaning gloves are kinda floppy around the arms and are likely to scoop liquid into them if you are not careful and laytex gloves don't stand up to rough treatment for very long (especially with my nails.)

So I picked up several different glove options to test out. I might be needing to figure out some arm bands to keep the cleaning gloves tight to my arms to avoid scooping up liquid as I work. See I'm using a hydroponic tray to lay the towers in to be able to soak a whole side of a tower at a time.

Ah well, better get to work, lots to do.

Colours are a very easy way to identify systems. Red green blue etc. The it doesn't matter what media, location, or nutrient supply.

TC,
Try Nitrile gloves, they are usually blue.
We use them when working on equipment, chemical resistant, good fit so you dont have liquids under the cuff...
SHOULD hold up to your nails.
You can get a pack of 6-10 at walmart, advance auto etc etc..for a few dollars. More expensive than latex exam gloves but MUCH more durable. You can also double them up if needs be.
