All I wanted to say is.. how awesome is the Jaycar catalogue.
I bought my copy for the meagre sum of $4, and it has since replaced all books on the coffee table. Any spare moment is spent trying to figure out how I can incorporate a 12V coffee percolator or RC helicopter into the planning of my future AP system.
If you dont have one, get one.

Hi Riffraff

The April edition of Silicon Chip supplied the new Jaycar catalogue and yes I find it a
very good reference.

Don't know whether I'd use it as a coffee table magazine though.

More exciting, Jaycar is now (since a couple of days ago) supplying a kit to build a
"speed control for induction motors" for only $229. which is a very good price and supposedly
produces pure sine wave output.
As opposed to the Chinese units that sell for $400 and are somewhat unreliable.

cheers Lou

I agree FnF about the shelf products they stock. Lots of cheap junk.
I prefer to buy my cheap junk from Ebay or dealextreme.com Much cheaper and you have lots of choice.

However the Silicon Chip electronics based kits they sell are fine (also the component type stuff) and providing you take care you really can build things for much cheaper than retail, and much more fun.

To get cheaper stuff from Jaycar, go to www.electusdistribution.com.au, sign up for a trade account and buy stuff waaaay cheaper. You might need an ABN but thats all of 5 mins on the webernet.
Electus is the wholesale part of Jaycar
