What kinds of ornamental plants would grow well in an aquaponics system?

I have seen a giant fern (I think) growing in a BYAP grow bed. Are there any other ornamental plants suitable for aquaponics?

I should add - what kind of plants and flowers can be planted in an aquaponics system that will atract benficial insects?

Most plants will grow well, just make sure before you buy they that the plant doesn't mind getting it's feet wet. In other words some plants will simply rot away at the roots if always in water, but many others thrive in similar conditions. Speek to a specialist at a nursury and they may be able to head you in the right direction for the sort of plants you want to get.
Many ferns will love the AP system.

MMMmm, ferns and palms love it...

We've also grown a fair few cutting successfully, fig tree cuttings were great, don't think we lost one.

This fern indoors is out of control... There's a big pizza oven underneath there buried somewhere..

Thanks guys. Earthbound that is some enormous growth! To get a sense of scale I am imagining a 30cm ruler next to the grow bed since the grow beds themselves are .3m in height.

Ground to top of grow bed is 1m.
Might be easier to scale with that... :)

That is very impressive faye. They look like they are from a dinosaur movie.

Aloe Vera must be able to adapt well to different climates? Probably more suited to a siphon system?

Does anyone know of a flowering plant that will grow over the front of GB's toward the ground?, in an attempt to "pretty up" the visual impact of the system?

Hi Faye,
Do you think the scarlet runner will flower in the heat of summer here in Kalgoorlie? For example it is forecast to be 41 degrees here on Sunday.
