I'd like to grow me at least 1 nice big pretty koi. Preferably 3 or 4 I'd also like to have some eating fish and am thinking trout for the winter and maybe some silver perch as they tolerate both hot and cold and will grow during the summer when the trout will be eaten/in the freezer.

I'd also like to toy with some yabbies so my question is:

Can i have any or all of these in one FT? say if I expanded to 3 growbeds of 300L each and having about 600-700L of water in my ibc water tank?

Alternatively I can make separate tanks for different species.

If you are just starting it is much easier to keep your fish separate. Yes you can mix fish but as they say "Less is more". Less species will probably return you greater results, that is just my opinion.

My Koi and Perch are happy together but I would be getting a different tank for trout. Especially as there is likely to be a size difference.

Will the trout eat the koi? Or koi eat the trout? I'm guessing koi are pretty passive fish. Or is it Perch and trout that is the problem? Which would eat which?

Trout will nip at the tails of any other fish and I guess thats not what you want for the Koi. I have silver perch , catfish and bass in one tank and they are fine , so the koi and silvers should be ok.

Trout will even eat and fight each other.

I have 2 in my FT that are constantly chasing each other around.

Funny to watch.
