Maybe Jimbo, I've never heard of that for dragon fruit but I am by no means an expert on them.

I got the wood bolted on the top and finished mounting the metal U channels yesterday. Just s couple more small things and I'll be ready to attach the film.

No expert here either, Ryan. Just a thought. I know pineapple can be finicky and not fruit for a few years when first planted. But, I read somewhere that it can be tricked into fruiting the first year with ethylene. Same gas that apples put off. I have no dragonfruit to experiment with and you're fairly busy right now, so maybe somebody will read this and give it a shot.

Somebody's tried it but "access forbidden" means I can't get to the results.

Bummer. Any helpful hackers around? :) Or maybe someone who knows the answer anyhow.

Bananas give off ethylene gas as well. Some people have put them in their tomatoe bushes to speed of tomatoes getting ripe. Also why bananas don't keep long in a bag, they rippen quickly and go brown.

Hey Ryan, how do you do a brix test with a refractometer

A Brix refractometer is essentially the same as a salinity refractomer... but measure sugars... with a corresponding scale...

Usually still has a "specific gravity" scale as well... but trying to convert between the scales is a pain...

Thanks For the support everyone :)
And thanks again Charlie for dividing up perfect.

Sorry for the late reply but just as Rupe said. You can actually use a salinity refractometer and go online and use a conversion chart to convert into brix. Really easy though...squeeze out a drop of juice, smash it between the lenses and look through the eye piece.

I just did a test this morning on my first Crenshaw melon. It was a tad short of 16brix!! (10 is good for melons). Probably the best melon I've ever had and I'm not a big melon fan. Tasted like a super sweet cantaloupe. I'm messing with the others that are ripening to get that number to jump and am going to use this first one as a control.

Keep this up and your going to make everyone want to go buy a refractometer thingamajig just to test the produce in their systems.
Although, it would be a good selling point at the farmers market...
