I get some from my pumped return from sump to fish tank but I dont think that much. But if the drain from growbed is directly over the fish tank then you could put more holes in the return above the water me thinks

The GB drain is simply a 25mm standpipe with a 25/50mm "head". When water spills over the top of the wider diameter, air is drawn in and is carried along with the water; the air is compressed slightly as the water depth increases, so its release is quite dramatic.

The 25/50 is because of the amount of water going into the GB. If your pumping rate is less than mine then you can get away with smaller diameters; you'll know when you've got it right because you should be able to hear the drain "sucking".

I'll post some pics and maybe another vid tomorrow.

I don't have an air pump with this system, so I dump the aerated water at the bottom of the FT. The air creates an uplift and the water is directed to cause a swirl, making sure the water is thoroughly mixed and exposed to the air boundary layer.

I found some seeds in the shed, and simply scattered a small handful in each of six sections in the GB, just to plant something green whilst the system was cycling.

Looking at the photos aspect:
Front left - silverbeet
Front right - kale
Mid left - sweet basil
Mid right - initially "fallow" but ended up chucking in some asian greens
Back left and right - two varieties of lettuce.

Now that things have stabilised, I have started thinning the initial crop and planting out what we want for winter. Not everything took too kindly to thinning (but the worms, chooks, friends and neighbours loved it!) After being so densely packed, the silverbeet and kale are quite spindly. Cest la vie.

I've still got some space left and nitrates at 10-20, so will have to find time to get to the nursery/B for some more seeds/seedlings.

Yep, just drill 3 or 4 holes in the GB outlet pipe, above the water line - works a treat.
