Oi! You missed some of the dead leaves on the tomatoes and the spring onions Charlie. The cameras always pick them up and you'll hate yourself for not taking the time to trim them off. Quickly now :naughty: Back you go. :)

I reckon it's dangerous having your fishing rods right near the AP system....... :)

Oh bugger, your right Faye, I better go do a bit more trimming

The rods are for the photos only, they will go back in the shed afterwards - my son would have a field day otherwise.

System update.

PH - 7.6
AMM - 0
NITRI - 0
NITRA - 80
TEMP - 18 deg

40 silvers healthy and happy.

Harvesting cherry tommies everyday but today my brocolli was done and also a heap of celery and chillies. My heirloom tommie is bustin out some massive juicy tomatoes - best investment for us so far for sure.

All plants looking healthy and should have an abundant of lettuce soon.

I have also set up the partition in the FT to seperate the SP and trout through the winter. This is a bit of an experiment so see how we go.

I used 20mm pipe to make the frame by measuring the internals of the FT.

This is the plastic mesh I decided on.

I drilled holes in each corner of the frame so it could fill with water and vent so submersion was easier.

I secured the mesh onto the frame with zip-ties, all up took about 1 hour as I had to keep resizing the frame so it would fit snug as possible.

And the finished product, I overshot it with the height a bit but I suppose its better than being under.

Thanks Mantis.

Trout are in! (thanks OBO)

Partition seems to be working so far, they fed straight away so thats a good sign. Although I think trout will feed even if they were on there deathy bed.

Nice again, so the trout are big enough not to get through that mesh ?

I pondered this for weeks....which mesh to use?

There are so many sizes and textures. I decided on this one for its durability and UV resistance.....also it was the smallest I could get in that type.

I have a floating basket that I made some time back and thought I could keep them in that till they are big enough not to get caught or slip through the net.....but they are a bit bigger than last years which were about 40mm. This lot are 80-100mm.....they definately cant get through the holes.

Ill see what tomorrow brings :dontknow:

Nice work Charlie

This reminds me of a floating cage one of the guys made at the club hatchery. He went to a lot of trouble making this cage and it looked great. So one weekend they place the floating cage in the hatcheries dam. It was going to be used to house and grow-on some of the trout... They dump a heap of trout in there... only to find that the trout are just small enough to fit their heads through, but too big to go all the way though.

They were gill netted

Has crossed my mind over and over Dunder.

Was just out back admiring my handy work and watching the trout and looks like the smallest of the lot has escaped into the SP side....he is swimming seperate to the SP like he is an outcast...oh well wont be long and he wont fit through either, for the meantime he wont have much authority over 40 big SP.

Another observation is they are looking through the net at each other....almost like they are investigating each other....or possibly just having a chat :dontknow:

:D

Awsome growth, love it. This type of production is what I am aspiring too. Hopefully now that I have some REAL fish, things will pick up.

Im not keen on putting any metal in the FT

Yea but Im not too fussed, its a regular at my place to see yabbies crawling around the yard, they escape via the airlines and pump hoses too. We just throw them back in or the cats play with them.
The small yabbies are dropping like flies at the moment with the cold weather and the SP eat them regularly or torment them to death.
